Advanced Opportunities

  • The Coeur d'Alene School District believes academically gifted and talented children have unique characteristics and distinct learning needs. The district's Advanced Learning Program (ALP) is committed to providing students identified as academically gifted and talented with an appropriately challenging curriculum and instruction that meets their intellectual, social, and emotional needs. In elementary schools, this is provided through specialized instructors at each school building who supplement classroom instruction with activities and discussion intended to promote deeper learning. Similar activities continue in middle school through accelerated coursework in the content areas that is intended to prepare students for Advanced Placement (AP) courses in their high school years.

Additionally, the State of Idaho provides opportunities for students in grades 07 and higher to achieve collegiate credit or advanced placement through a series of programs - many of which may be free or charged or at a reduced cost to students and their families.  Each student in grades 7-12 will have $4,125.00 to use towards overload courses and dual credit coursework through accredited providers, and credit-bearing/certification exams.
