Our Greenhouse

  • The Hayden Meadows greenhouse is a self-sustaining project started in 2006 by Art Teacher, Vern Harvey, and is managed by Hayden Meadows staff & students. Each student has the opportunity to work in our greenhouse throughout the year, planting, watering, and measuring growth. In the spring, students see their hard work come to fruition, taking an active role in our annual plant sale, developing customer service and money handling skills.

While many students are building snowmen and making snow angels, our students are already preparing for spring. They force daffodils and tulips that will bloom just in time to distribute to residents in assisted living facilities come Valentine’s Day. After school they are busy working in the greenhouse, filling pots and cleaning for the all-school planting preparation. Planting geraniums begins in February, followed by petunias, million bells, begonias, and a large variety of vegetables, not to mention our famous hanging baskets! Even when the weather looks like winter, it's always spring in our school greenhouse.
