I'm so excited to teach 6th & 7th grade math at Canfield!

This is my 18th year teaching - I have experience in multiple grade levels from kindergarten through eighth grade.  I was Teacher of the Year in 2013 for Mendenhall Middle School in Livermore, CA where I helped develop a targeted math intervention program, co-taught with our Resource Specialist 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Algebra 1.  In addition, I'm a ClassDojo Mentor Teacher, trained in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) College Preparatory Mathematics (CPM) and Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD).  

The teaching strategies I use in the classroom are based on brain research, require active participation from the students . . . and they work!  Math Scholars will use a lot of hands-on materials as well as collaborate within teams.  Further, we will make conjectures and justify our reasoning using academic vocabulary.  My passion is to help students learn and understand math at a deep level.  We will have a growth mindset and learn from our mistakes! 

Our family recently moved to Coeur D'Alene from Lake of the Pines in Auburn, part of Northern California.  I love paddleboarding on Hayden Lake, serving in the nursery at my Church, and running the chains during high school Football games.  My two teenagers and my husband are all Lake City T-Wolves!
