Hello! I'm excited to return to the Advanced Learning Program at Bryan this year after teaching fifth grade at Cd'A eSchool during the 2020-2021 school year. I have worked as a teacher in the Coeur d'Alene School District since 2003 beginning as a fifth grade teacher at Hayden Lake Elementary. Since then, I have been at Bryan Elementary school where I continued teaching fifth grade until becoming the Advanced Learning Program teacher here eight years ago.
I love getting to know about my students and helping them grow as mathematicians, readers, writers, scientists, and citizens. As the ALP teacher, I will be coordinating our school's Spelling Bee and Invention Convention. In addition to those national projects we get to participate in, Bryan Elementary is the unofficial headquarters for the Idaho Kids Vote Book Award. I am extremely excited that Bryan students will get to take part in awarding the IDkidsvote medal to one of this year's nominated books.
It is an honor to teach kids from all over the Coeur d'Alene School District. I grew up in this community and attended Winton elementary, Lakes Middle School, and both Coeur d'Alene and Lake City High Schools. From there I went on to the University of Idaho where I met my wonderful wife Sarah while playing tuba in the Vandal Marching Band. We now have a daughter, Amelia, who is a sixth grader. We also have two crazy cats, Jack and Pattycake, a beautiful betta fish named Katara, and a silly rat named Pikel.
This is going to be a great school year! This year, I will be spending time in grade 3-5 classrooms and also working with small groups in my own classrom, and I have a lot of great ideas that I can't wait to share with my students. Bryan Bears are going to have the chance to explore and take on challenges that will help them become confident and independent learners. I will be there to support them along the way with frequent messages, check-ins, and office hours. I know I will make mistakes along the way as I work with the rest of the Bryan staff to build a new type of advanced learning program that includes more of our Bryan Bears. I expect my students to make mistakes along the way, too. However, I firmly believe that mistakes are evidence that we are learning, and that is our goal: learning toghether!
