    Mrs. Martinez

Hello! My name is Mikaela Martinez and I am thrilled to be teaching kindergarten at Northwest Expedition Academy! Kindergarten is such a foundational year and I can't wait to get to know your child.

I attended Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography (you can find me teaching dance classes at Northern Dance Academy after school!) and attended Lewis-Clark State College to pursue my elementary teaching certificate. I am so glad my teaching journey has lead me to such an incredible school community at NExA!

When I am not teaching I am spending time with my husband Mario, our daughter Alma, and our three dogs! Mario and I enjoy stand up comedy, music, art, classic cars, collecting midcentury furniture, and spending time with our friends and family. We are thrilled that we welcomed our daughter to our family on Christmas Eve and it is such a joy to introduce her to the world!

    Mrs. Wise

Hello! My name is Karissa Wise and I am honored to be your kindergartener’s teacher this year at NExA! Kindergarten is very near and dear to my heart; it is where a passion for learning begins, and I am so lucky to be on this journey with your child!

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Kyle, for 8 years. Our son, Beckham, is entering first grade this fall, and our daughter, Kennedy, will begin Pre-K.

I grew up in Coeur d’Alene and just moved back to the area last summer after spending 7 years away supporting my husband’s military and helicopter pilot career.  I am ecstatic to be back in North Idaho, teaching in my hometown! I received my bachelor’s degree in education through Lewis-Clark State College, and my master’s degree in curriculum and instruction of reading through Grand Canyon University.

Although I have primarily been busy raising my babies, I have had wonderful teaching opportunities, including being NExA’s long-term third grade and kindergarten sub before joining their Title 1 team.

When I am not teaching I love spending quality time with my children (they are my world!), husband, and family. We love being active outdoors: spending time hiking new terrain, or being out on the lake. We also fill our days with music, books, soccer and ballet!
