Coeur d'Alene High School Community Pantry
Welcome to the Coeur d'Alene High School Community Pantry webpage!
First: a bit about us...
2 years ago, the CHS Student Council had a conversation about Maslowe’s Hierarchy of Needs and realized that if we really want students to be academically and socially successful here, and families to be successful within the community, we need to meet some of their primary needs. We knew we could help create the sense of safety, security and hospitality here at school, but we discussed how we could help in other ways. Our ASB then presented the idea of partnering with local agencies to address the hunger that pervades sections of our community. After much research, we contacted 2nd Harvest and began the process of learning what it takes to run a food pantry. After months of collaborating and training, we are finally ready to open the Pantry to the public! The Pantry has been open to students since the beginning of the school year, but we also want to help assist those in the community. We are partnering with members of the Coeur d’Alene School District, 2nd Harvest, U of I Extension, and NIC to create a holistic approach to this problem. Currently, we can supply fruits, vegetables, and canned and boxed foods, but we are also brainstorming a program by which we can provide nutrition education and planning to members of the community. I hope to have a (basic) webpage on our school website up and running by the end of the today that can be regularly updated with pertinent information for those interested parties within the community.
