Mrs. Brown's 2nd grade class page
Welcome to 2nd grade, my name is Nicole Brown and I am very excited to be your students’ teacher this year! A littile bit about me: I have my BA in Anthropology and Sociology, and a MS in Education: Reading emphasis. My husband and I are in love with the area, people, and great outdoors! We love to take walks, go swimming and Kayaking.
Information about 2nd grade
Second grade is such a fun year! Your students are at the end of their development of foundational skills that we have been focusing on in Kindergarten and First grade and are now beginning on the path of applying their skills to the content areas. They are able to further grow as mathematicians, scientists, readers and writers now, using those foundational skills as a jumping point. Of course, our main focuses in second grade are still language arts and math, but I look forward to applying our reading and math skills in new ways. I love that, in second grade, students become independent readers and can start to make choices about what types of reading they really enjoy!
My goal is to make sure that learning is fun, but that we work hard! I have high expectations of my students and hope my students have high expectations of me. I try to foster a positive, upbeat, safe, and challenging atmosphere where students can take risks in their own learning and feel safe to be themselves. I love when my students push themselves and others to be better, better as learners and better as members of our communities.
