Mr. Nicholas Quick - Skyway Librarian

Hello Skyway Families!

This is Mr. Quick with a monthly update for Skyway’s Library. March wound down quite easily with us playing our silent library game the week before Spring Break. Students really enjoy the game and it helps teach them self-control while in a library setting. After returning from break we eased back into the groove of things by working on library-centric word puzzles & reviewing book reports. For grades K & 1 we read “The Bears’ Picnic” by Stan & Jan Berenstein, followed by “Arthur’s Tooth” by Marc Brown.

April brings our second book fair of the school year. The final two weeks of the month are dedicated to preparing for and hosting the fair. These fairs are the only source of income the library has to purchase new books, so they’re very important. Fortunately, we do really well with them and rank among the best nationally. This will be my fourth fair at Skyway, yet I’m still learning enhancements and new processes that make our fairs even better.

As usual, Meghan and I welcome parental volunteers for the fair. If you’d like to sign up please follow this link and select any timeslot that works for you:

You can also sign up to volunteer or read more about the fair through the Scholastic hosted site at:

We have a variety of fresh new releases of popular series coming into the spring fair. Including new titles from Dog Man, Wings of Fire, Love Puppies, and I Survived. My recommendation, as always, is for you to provision an e-wallet so your student can shop easily and effectively. E-wallets are setup through the provided Scholastic link above and funded in advance of the fair. This way students don’t have to a) miss out or b) bring cash or a card and potentially lose them. If you have any questions on e-wallets please let me know!

We have a new donation system for the fair this year called “Share the Fair.” Donations to the program will be shared directly with in-school students who do not have funds available to shop (for any reason – they forgot, no access, lost, etc.).

For parents of Bookworm volunteers, I’ll be sending home a permission slip for your student to assist with the setup, operation, and/or the tear-down of the fair. Please have them returned by April 18. If you have questions about the form, please reach out.

Thanks for reading!
