Grade Level Links Message | AR Booklist | Web Links | Reference Sources Mrs. Dane
Winton students visit the library on a weekly visit with their class. This is a great time for them to explore the library and check out books. There are also many times throughout the week that the library is accessible. Winton library has over 8000 volumes which allows many choices, and we are continually adding new books to the library. This is our eighth year using the Accelerated Reader (AR) program. The AR program is a recreational reading program that makes the task of students finding books in a comfortable reading level an easy one. Once the student reads the book, they can then take a computer quiz on the book. The students really seem to like the ease of finding a book, and then doing a quiz on the computer. A list of all our AR books and quizzes can be found on this web site. You probably already have some of these books at home. The library also offers reading incentive programs throughout the year. Our most popular incentive is “Reading is the Ticket” which is sponsored by Silverwood and enables students to win a day pass that can be used during the summer. This event takes place in February and March and is very popular with the students. Other reading incentives will be announced in the library as well as being distributed in the weekly folders. A Scholastic Book Fair is held in the library in December. It’s a great time to finish up a little holiday shopping! Towards the end of the school year, we have a used book sale. These books are gathered from Winton families throughout the year. So when you are cleaning off your bookshelves, we will gladly take your gently used books and recycle them at our sale. Box Tops: This has been a great fundraiser for the library with all the money spent on new books. So please clip those boxtops and have your kids bring them in. Small monthly prizes are given. Please feel free to visit the library. Or better yet, ask your child for a tour.
