This is the third year of the Advanced Learning Program in the Coeur d'Alene School District. Thanks to the voters of our district, who passed a spring levy, we are funded for 10 elementary Advanced Learning Instructors, one in each building, through May 2009. I am very excited to be among those hired for this position. After 10 years of teaching third grade here at Winton this has been an exciting change that has brought me a lot of challenge and joy. I am fortunate to work with children in three grade levels and it gives me the opportunity to see these children grow over time. I also feel lucky to work with a group of colleagues who support this program and have allowed me to inundate them with endless questions and ideas.
I am the instructor for third, fourth, and fifth grade students in reading and math. Monday through Thursday. I meet with math students for 60 minutes and the reading groups are 45 minutes. On Thursdays, a retired teacher and former Winton grandparent teaches Algebra to the fourth and fifth graders.
