First Trimester

About Me Paragraph - Students will create and publish a one paragraph document about themselves including a topic sentence, three detail sentences and a closing sentence.  They will use a WordArt title and a digital image in their document.

Compare and Contrast Character Traits - Molly and Elizabeth from Molly's Pilgrim - Using Kidspiration, the students will list three adjectives to describe two story characters, and find examples from the story to support their reasoning.

Fact vs. Opinion - Molly's Pilgram The student will read statements about the book Molly’s Pilgrim then drag and drop the statements into the correct category of fact or opinion using Kidspiration.  Students can then print page to turn in to teacher.

Punctuation Quiz - This on-line 4 question multiple choice punctuation quiz will help prepare students for the ISAT.

Story Map - Using a Kidspiration template the students will fill in the story map with the appropriate information from the story they read.

Second Trimester

Antonyms and Synonyms  - Students open either the ant_sys.kia or ant_sys_e.kia template. Both templates have the same list of words with super groupers for synonyms and antonyms on either side. Students are to click and drag the antonym and synonyms into the appropriate super grouper that match the words in the middle. Ant_syn_e is easier for students to complete because the antonym and synonyms have been color coded.

Homphones - During this on-line activity, students will type the correct homophone for: new - knew, buy - by – bye, sale – sail, whether – weather, wear – where, no – know, within a sentence.

Irregular Verb Tense - Students open a template called verb_tense.kia. This template has a list of present tense verbs. Students are to click and drag the matching past and past with have or has verb into the appropriate super grouper. Students should then “Go to the Writing” and write 1 or more sentences for each tense.

Prefixes and Suffixes - Students open a template called prefix_suffix.kia. They click and drag the prefixes, suffixes, and root words into the appropriate super grouper. They then type 5 words by combining prefixes or suffixes with a root word.

Structured Poetry: Haiku and Cinquain - The students will use a Kidspiration  template to create their own structured poem

Story Map PowerPoint Presentation - After reading a fiction story or fairy tale, students will identify the characters, setting, problem, sequence of events and solution of the story.  While working in small groups, students will create a storyboard, then create a 5 slide presentation using PowerPoint.

Third Trimester

Character Traits - War With Grandpa - Using a Kidspiration, students will list adjectives to describe the main character at the beginning and the end of the story, and list examples to support those traits.

Spelling Quiz - This on-line Hot Potatoes 10 question multiple choice spelling quiz will help prepare students for the ISAT.

Download Directions

  1. Login as your students if you do not have access to their folder when you are logged in as yourself.

  2. Right click on the file you your wish to save.

  3. Click on Save Target As... if you are using Explorer or Save Link as if your are using Netscape.

  4. Click the down arrow to the right of the Save in box and navigate to your students folders.

  5. If you would like to make a folder for these files, click on the Create New Folder button.

    1. Type a title for the folder such as _lang_arts.

    2. Press Enter to set the new title.

    3. Click on Open to open the folder.

  6. Click on Save.

Making files read only

(Note: Kidspiration files are already read-only)

Making a file read only allow for multiple students to open the same document. When the students save their document, the Save as dialog box opens. The students must save the document with either a different name or to a different location. They cannot override your original read only document.

  1. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, navigate to the document you just downloaded.

  2. When you have located your document, right click on it.

  3. Click on Properties.

  4. Towards the bottom of the Properties dialog box, you should see an Attributes section. Click in the box by Read-only.

  5. Do not worry about the other two boxes. They are fine the way they are.
