Extended Learning Team

Welcome to the Extended Learning
Page. At Sorensen, we seek to differentiate instruction so that every
child is receiving instruction for their individual needs and goals.
As we work towards developing individual learning plans for every child, we
employ a team approach to instruction, monitoring, and assessment.
Here at
Sorensen, we focus our instruction and management on each student’s
strengths and specific skill level. We get to know each student
individually in order to find out how each student learns best. This
allows us to provide instruction, accommodations and other services to
students so that they may be successful in the general education
classroom. We deliver specially designed instruction to each student who
qualifies for special education, as well as ensuring that the student’s
family is a key player in their child’s educational program.

My name is Mrs. Grace Longmeier. This is my third year at Sorensen. I have
been married for nearly 5 years to the love of my life. I thoroughly
enjoy teaching at this dynamic and innovative school. I have always
loved the arts and have dabbled in painting, drawing, and pottery from a
young age. I love the positive and caring atmosphere that our school
promotes. I appreciate how the staff works as a team to deliver quality
instruction for all students.

Your Rights:
By definition, according to Idaho
Special Education Manual, Special education is specially designed
instruction or speech/language therapy at no cost to the parent to meet
the unique needs of a student with a disability. Specially designed
instruction is defined as adapting the content, methodology, or delivery
of instruction to address the unique needs of an eligible student that
result from the student’s disability and to ensure access to the general
education curriculum so that the student can meet the educational
standards of that district that apply to all students. |
My name is
Christa Seger, and I have been a teacher at Sorensen since 2003.
I am married, and we are raising our 4 children in this wonderful
community. I love helping students set reading goals, and then
supporting them and celebrating with them when those goals are reached.

My name is Joe Helbling,

My name is "Miss Karen," and I am the school
psychologist here at Sorensen. I absolutely love my job and feel very
lucky to be able to help so many students succeed in school. My daughter
and I live here in Coeur d'Alene with our two dogs and we love living in
this beautiful city! Outside of work I love to dance, hike, make
jewelry, and just hang out with my friends and family.
