Here at Skyway, students
learn about Character traits in the following ways. We
start the school year off in September with an overview
of the Spirit of Skyway Pledge and introduce the eight
traits. Skyway students then participate in character
assemblies once every three months. The November,
February, and May assemblies address three character
traits at a time.
This month we will
introduce our new parent connect called “Passport to
Character”. Each student will receive a passport and
have the opportunity to do a project based activity to
learn and demonstrate knowledge of a particular
character trait. The Passport to Character will be a
powerful at home approach to learning. This will
provide students with authentic learning experiences in
which they can gain knowledge of character content in a
real-life, real-world context.
In addition to the
school assemblies and the Passport to Character, our
library holds many books that teachers use with their
class to reinforce character values. Excellent examples
of fiction and non-fiction books are coded for each
character trait.
If you would like to
participate in our Character Education program or have
any questions, comments, or concerns please contact our
Vice Principal, Mrs. English.
