LOST & FOUND
During the year many children will come home missing an item of clothing. In almost every case we find that the item has not been stolen, but only misplaced. We have a
room for clothing items, lunch boxes,
balls, umbrellas, etc. Smaller items are kept in the lost and found drawer in the office.
We suggest that you label your child's clothing and other possessions so
they can be easily identified. If your child is missing something, feel free to come to school and check our lost and found
before the end of the trimester. Items remaining in the Lost &
Found room are donated to a local clothing ministry at the end of every
reporting period.
SCHOOL PLUS
School Plus, an on-site daycare, is available for students before school from 6:45 to 8:55 a.m. and after school from 3:15 to 6:00 p.m. For further information regarding
fees and registration, contact the School Plus office at 769-0700.
CHILD SAFETY BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL
Children need to know the routine they should follow before and after school. Please make sure your child knows the safety rules needed to get him/her to and from school. To ensure the safety of all children, any child who arrives at school before 8:30 a.m. or who has been left at the school after 3:30 p.m. will be taken to the “School Plus” facility. Parents will be charged for this service. (Emergency situations will be taken into consideration.) Students are not allowed to stay after school to play on the playground because there is no supervision.
Parents are to notify the office when children are ill or will be late to school.

MEDICATION
(Policy 561)
School personnel are not to administer ANY medication to students without written instructions from a physician. Medication must be in original container with matching instructions on file in the office. Notes from parents are not sufficient. Parents or legal guardians are welcome to come to the office and the child will be called from the classroom to take the medication from the parent. Over the counter medication may be administered only if the parent comes to the office prior to giving medication and signs a permission/release form.
SICK OR INJURED CHILDREN
If your child becomes ill or is injured at school, we will contact you immediately. It is important that you keep the office supplied with ACCURATE AND UP-TO-DATE PHONE NUMBERS & EMERGENCY INFORMATION. Please remember, we cannot keep seriously ill children at school.
HEAD LICE POLICY
(Policy 563)
Head lice is a common condition in school-aged children. It it
highly contagious and easily spread from direct or indirect contact with
infested persons and/or infested personal items. The school
principal or designee will screen students for head lice. If nits
(egg cases) are present, the student will be sent home.
The school district has adopted a “nit free” policy. Any student contracting head lice will be excluded from school until the principal or designee determines the child “nit free.”

PARENT / TEACHER CONFERENCES
There are two regularly scheduled Parent/Teacher Conferences during the school year. These coincide with 1st and
2nd report cards (November 24-25 & March 25-26). You will receive a conference slip from your child's teacher with your scheduled conference time and date. Please feel free to contact your child's teacher any time. If you have any concerns, please call and schedule a time to talk with your child's teacher.
COUNSELING
A counselor is a person who likes to help you. If children have something they would like to talk about - personal problems, schooling, peer pressure, or anything that is troubling they may see the counselor. To arrange an appointment, children fill out a request slip and the counselor will contact them as quickly as possible. The counselor is always looking forward to meeting new students.

HOW YOU AS PARENTS CAN HELP YOUR CHILDREN
A. Praise your child each day for something he/she has done. Have a special place to put school work that is brought home.
B. Laugh and talk with your child about school experiences and listen attentively to what is said about your child’s school day
experiences. Keep the lines of communication open between yourself and your child’s teacher.
C. Stress attendance. If your child is ill, home is the best place; otherwise, your child needs to be at school every day.
D. Stress organization of school notebooks, materials, etc. Work at home with skills taught at school.
LEAVING EARLY / ARRIVING LATE
If a child must leave early during the school day, the parent must stop by the office to sign him/her out.
We will have your child meet you at the office. For your child’s safety we will not release any student to anyone other than parents or legal guardians without permission from parents. Students who are tardy or are returning to school from an appointment must check in at the office. Please try to schedule appointments for your child after 3:15 p.m.

SCHOOL WIDE PROACTIVE DISCIPLINE PLAN
(Policy 539 and 543)
BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT PLAN
Ramsey Elementary School implements a school wide behavior management plan. All staff work together to teach and reinforce positive student behaviors. Recently the Coeur d’Alene School District has implemented procedures which require us to document and provide consequences to students who threaten other students or staff. Please talk with your child about the seriousness of verbal threats towards others.
We request that every parent volunteer time at school or time at home. Title IV funding for schools requires parent participation in the nation's schools. WE WANT PARENTS TO BE AWARE AND INVOLVED IN THEIR CHILD(REN)'S EDUCATION AT RAMSEY.
To insure that students can learn in a safe and positive environment, high standards of behavior are expected. To best achieve this, expected behaviors are taught for the classroom and all common school areas. This involves teaching all rules and routines modeling and monitoring conduct, and reinforcing appropriate behaviors. Students are held accountable for their own actions through a district philosophy of Disciplining with Dignity. Please talk with your child about the school rules and help him/her understand their importance.
Severe offenses are referred to the Principal. These include:
·Fighting, ·Possession of Weapons, Threats to Kill
·Disrespect, ·Possession of any Controlled Substance

Student Harassment/Threats: (Policy 506)
