A message from the Ramsey fifth grade teachers Ramsey 5th graders are an exciting bunch of students who enjoy lots of variety and challenge in their last year before middle school. They learn about U.S. History and study all fifty states. Each student does a state report, and later in the spring completes a multi-media presentation. In science we learn about biomes and food webs. Just before Christmas we take a field trip to watch the eagles on Coeur d'Alene Lake. Ramsey 5th graders work hard preparing themselves mathematically for the challenge of middle school. We review and extend concepts in multiplication, division, geometry, fractions, probability and problem solving. Science Fairs, Invention Conventions, Strings, Geography and Spelling Bees also keep students challenged. Language Arts skills are developed through a Balanced Literacy Program that includes the six traits of writing. Another special highlight is the D.A.R.E. program which teaches students skills to say no to drugs and to be a positive role model to fellow students. Students are also involved with technology using video, computers, and multi-media software as a learning tool. Excitement increases at the end of the year when 5th graders parade their state floats around the school and blast off their rockets for the rest of the school to enjoy. As a grand finale they have a Graduation Party that parents plan and students talk about for years! |
