Project Middle
School is part of Project CDA (Creating Drop-out
Alternatives) and represents an optional and
alternative
approach to traditional middle school
education. We offer students another way to complete their
Middle School year(s). We have two certified teachers and two
full time teacher assistants, allowing for a great deal of
individual attention for each student.
With the small
student/adult ratio, emphasis is placed on the individual
student. Several instructional strategies are used to
accomplish this, including cooperative learning, peer tutoring,
and group discussion. We believe in developing life-long
learners. Our central focus is enhancing the self as a learner
and a worker/producer. Students have the right to take
responsibility for their own education. Ownership heightens
motivation to learn. We provide a supportive climate intended
to assist in both problem solving and academic success for all
students who elect to attend our school. Our emphasis
this year is on the core subject areas of math, reading, and
language arts.
Project is a
school of choice, only students who want to come here are
accepted, and parent approval is required. Parents must also
accept the program we offer, because in this unique program we
depend on parents to help us accomplish our goals.
We strive to offer a wide variety of approaches to class
assignments, with all work being done during the school day and
little need, if any, for traditional "homework". Because of
this emphasis on in-class work, attendance is VERY
important here at Project. The only absences we excuse
are for court, medical reasons, or trips with parents. Regular
attendance is a requirement at Project Middle School
and student must attend to achieve success. |
