New Information about Project CDA for Fall 2008

July 16, 2008

Dear Project CDA Parents and Students,

Another exciting year providing education to your students is quickly approaching. We would like to inform you of some significant events and changes at Project CDA for the 2008-2009 school year.

First on the list is registration. Registration is on August 20th. There are four (4) categories for students wanting to attend Project CDA.

ALL STUDENTS MUST BRING IN PROOF OF RESIDENCY. NO EXCEPTIONS.

This is a MUST. If this is not provided, or is inaccurate, your student will not be allowed to register.

      1. Returning Students: These are students that attended Project CDA last year. Students MUST bring accurate demographic information: current address, and phone numbers to contact parents/guardians or other listed individuals who can be reached in case of an emergency.

      2. Referred Students: These are students that have been referred to Project CDA by another school within School District #271. Students MUST bring the following records: discipline, attendance, accommodations or adaptations that effect student achievement and behavior, IEP/504 Plans, application, ISAT scores from the most recent test, transcripts and current class schedule. These records MUST be complete.

      3. Freshman Students: These are 9th grade students that are required to start classes on August 21st – 28th from 9:00am until 12:00pm. These classes are intended to aide 9th grade students as they transition to high school.

      4. Out of District Students: These are students coming from outside School District #271 who must provide all of the above information, including immunization records. At this time, Project CDA is not accepting any out of district students with Individual Education Plans.

Class Time: All 9th and 10th grade students will attend from 8:00am until 2:20pm. 11th and 12th grade students will attend according to their credit needs.

Picture Day: Students pictures will be taken on September 9th.

School Supplies: Students will need to bring: 2 reams of white copy paper, 2 large boxes of Kleenex tissue, 1 box of blue or black ink pens (12 per box), 1 box of #2 pencils (12 per box), and 1 package of college ruled notebook paper (150 sheets per package). These supplies are to be brought in at the time of registration and/or no later than the first day of school (September 2, 2008). As you turn these supplies into the office make sure your name is checked off the list before leaving. This is very important and is part of the registration process.

  • According to District #271 Policy NO: 547- use of portable communication and other electronic devices, such as cell phones, music players, and game units, will be restricted. Stay tuned for further information.

  • Project CDA will no longer serve middle school students. We will continue to offer education for 9th through 12th grades.

  • The Bridge Academy, a credit retrieval program, will be relocating and sharing the Project CDA site at 1619 N. 9th Street. The Bridge Academy will be located in the Northeast wing of Project CDA, where the middle school was previously located. Sessions offered will be: 8:00am–11:00am, 11:00am–2:00pm, 2:00pm–5:00pm, and 5:00pm–7:30pm, Monday – Thursday. Friday session will be available from 8:00am–11:00am. Parking for The Bridge Academy will be provided in the lower northeast parking lot.

  • The Bridge Academy’s computer-based NovaNet curriculum is an option for students who have been referred by community agencies, high school counselors, and/or for returning students up to the age of 21 who are actively employed or actively volunteering for a minimum of 13 hours per week. Bridge Academy students generally work on one credit at a time. They also have the opportunity to dual enroll in the WINGS program at North Idaho College or they can elect to take advantage of concurrent enrollment in elective classes at Project CDA, CHS, LCHS and/or Riverbend.

The relocation of the Bridge Academy is an attempt to provide students with greater opportunities and to enhance the education programs of both Project CDA and The Bridge Academy. The Bridge Academy does have an application process and students must meet various criteria before being accepted. Space is limited.

For further information about The Bridge Academy, please call Susan Thomas at (208) 667-0319 or email her at sthomas@cdaschools.org.

Project CDA (Creating Dropout Alternatives) is an alternative high school and middle school serving students grades 7-12 who were struggling in the traditional school setting.  A complete school program is offered leading to a high school diploma.  Smaller class size and a variety of teaching methods that motivate the hard to reach student makes this an award winning program.

Project CDA offers all the core subjects (English, Math, Social Studies) plus has a Professional Technical emphasis.  Students graduating from Project CDA can earn Skill Certificates that will be useful in the workforce.

Our motto is "Graduating Producers."  We want our graduates to take a meaningful place in our society and workforce.  Welcome to Project CDA.

Parents:  Please do not call your child during class hours on their cell phone.  If you need to get a message to your child, call the school at 667-7460 and we will get the message to them.
