Title One

Title I is a national federally-funded reading program that provides tutoring for those children who perform below grade-level expectations.

The Coeur d'Alene School District has 10 schools that offer Title I services. The administrator of the program is Frances Huffman, who coordinates 11 dynamic teachers and many reading aides. The reading program is funded by the federal government. The allocation to the district is determined by the free and reduced lunch count in the district.

Parent involvement is one of the most important components of the Title I program. There are many things parents can do to promote better reading in their child, and Title I tries to bring about successful reading habits both in school and at home.

Parents have a right to be involved in the planning of their child's education, so Title I teachers encourage involvement from the families of the children receiving services. Together, help in reading and writing bring about the success that insures these children a bright future.
