How do universities recognize I. B. Diplomas / Certificates?

Any university would prefer to have a student who was well rounded, analytical, and approaches learning with a passion. Students who earn an International Baccalaureate Diploma are sought after by the best universities in the United States and around the world and many universities offer great incentives for IB students to continue their studies on their campuses.

Recognition of the International Baccalaureate Diploma

The International Baccalaureate Diploma is highly coveted not only by leading students, but by leading universities as well. According to their document, 'University Recognition of the IB Diploma,' "The discipline and desire required to complete the IB Diploma Programme are a major commitment." IB students want universities to understand and appreciate this commitment. If they have done well on IB exams, and particularly if they have earned the IB Diploma, IB students expect colleges and universities to properly recognize this achievement. This recognition comes in many forms, but the five most common are: recruitment, admission, scholarship, placement, and credit. Essentially, there are two schools for thought ...those that have typical policies and those that have exemplary policies. For information on how your favorite college or university views diploma, check the admissions of their school or visit www.ibo.org/diploma/recognition. I asked for a list of all schools with IB credit opportunities in the U.S. and the list was 820 universities! There are many universities that recognize IB credit but are not listed on the site. (U of Idaho is one example)

Local School examples:
The University of Idaho and Washington State University
