International Baccalaureate offers a comprehensive two-year college preparatory curriculum for juniors and seniors that will allow students to fulfill requirements of various national education systems and to meet admissions requirements of universities throughout the world. Based on overall scores, most colleges and universities recognize the students' achievement by offering credit and advanced placement in core area courses. Studies show that IB students perform better in college than students who have not taken this type of college prep program. Interested students are encouraged to begin preparatory studies for the IB Program as soon as possible.
  • Participation is open to all highly motivated, college bound students
  • When registering for grades 9 and 10, interested students will complete a pre-IB participation form
  • During registration for the junior year, students intending to register for IB Courses for grade 11 will be given information about all of the current IB courses available and the IB coordinator will be available during registration to answer all questions
  • The IB requires that students take courses in each of six academic areas: English, International Language, Experimental Sciences, Individuals and Societies, Mathematics, and Arts or Electives
  • In addition to courses in these six areas, a full diploma candidate must complete a specified number of hours of community service, extracurricular activities and artistic endeavors; must complete a course in Theory of Knowledge; and must write a 4000 word extended essay in an area of special interest
  • Students are assess through internationally scored examinations and internally scored performance assessments. Students who complete the requirements of the IB Diploma Program and receive passing scores on their examinations are awarded the IB Diploma
  • IB also offers certificates to students based on their performance in individuals IB courses they have taken

Computer courses may be substituted for fine arts if the student is not interested in the arts

Sophomore Year:

It is recommended that 9th Required PE and other electives be completed before the end of the sophomore year
Junior Year:

IB English 11
IB French or Spanish 3
IB History of the Americas
IB Biology or IB Chemistry or

IB Math Studies or IB Math 1(or IB Math 2)
IB Arts
Speech (semester 1)
*Theory of Knowledge (Semester 2)
Diploma candidates will be allowed to complete a maximum of 2 IB external exams at the end of the junior year

*Theory of Knowledge is only offered to full diploma candidates
and satisfies Speech requirement
