C.A.S. is an acronym standing for creativity, activity, and service. CAS is the non-school portion of the requirements for the diploma, in which 150 hours of community service and activity in the arts and athletics is expected. It is hoped that students will involve themselves deeply in a single community service rather than piece together bits of many. Community service hours should comprise more than one third of the 150 hours required. C.A.S. is one of the three core requirements for diploma candidates.

Creativity: Creativity is interpreted as imaginatively as possible to cover a wide range of arts (dance, theatre, music, art), including creative thinking in the design and carrying out of service.

Action: Action includes leadership and participation in expeditions, individual and team sports, and physical activities outside the normal curriculum. It also includes physical activity involved in carrying out creative and service projects.

Service: Service is the essence of CAS; it involves interaction, such as the building of links with individuals or groups in the community (neighborhood, school, state, national, or international level). Service activities should not only involve doing things for others, but also doing things with others and developing a real commitment with them.
