Riverbend Technical Academy

RIVERBEND TECHNICAL PROFESSIONAL ACADEMY – First Year Courses (11,12)
The Academy is designed to provide students with real-life learning opportunities through integrated academic and technical units in programs not already offered. Students who enroll in the Academy typically have a strong career interest in one or more fields being offered, and receive exposure to high-end and state-of-the-art programs and services. These programs will be directly related to the preparation of high school students for the workforce, following industry standards that could lead to an AA degree for graduates. Through a diverse “mapping” of the curriculum, students can expect challenging courses related to technology. See your counselor for more information.

PROGRAM – HEALTH PROFESSIONS

7500 - HEALTH PROFESSIONS 2 Credits/2 Semesters
This course is a one-year, two-hour program designed to expand on career and patient care information, qualifying participants for a certified nursing assistant (CNA). Students will explore health careers in a job shadow assignment, learn entry level skills and expectations required to render direct and indirect health services to patients. Topics covered include anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, communicable diseases and medical disorders. Practice in a simulated lab will aid students in learning required competencies in preparation for direct patient care. In addition, they will learn employable skills through on-the-job training in a long-term care facility, at Kootenai Medical Center (KMC), and through the student organization, HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America).

PROGRAM – COMPUTER & NETWORK SYSTEMS

7510 –COMPUTER NETWORK/CISCO SYSTEMS 2 CreditS/2 Semesters
The course is designed to give students the knowledge and skills to obtain computer industry certifications.
The curriculum is that of the Cisco Networking Academy. There are two main areas: IT Essentials I – includes basic computer maintenance and repair, and is intended to prepare students to pass CompTia’s A+ examinations. CCNA – in the first of the four semesters of Cisco’s CCNA course, students learn about basic networking, topologies, configuration and cabling. Semester 1 also prepares students to pass CompTia’s Network+examination. This completes the students’ first year at Riverbend. Second year students begin CCNA Semesters 2, 3, and 4, which introduces them to Cisco IOS, and prepares them to pass Cisco’s demanding CCNA examinations. Students learn how to program and maintain Cisco routers and switches in preparation for a career in computer networking and possibly telecommunications

These include: Animation (3D Studio Max, Adobe Design Modules), Architecture/Interior Design (Architectural Desktop, 3D Studio Vis), Computer Aided Machining (Intellitek, Solid Works, CamWorks), Geographic Information Systems/Civil Engineering /Mapping (AutoCAD 2001i/Land Desktop), Graphics Design (Adobe Design Modules, Corel Draw, SignLab), Manufacturing/Industrial Design/Solids Modeling-Animation (Inventor, Solid Works), and Robotics/Industrial Control (Intellitek/Parallax). Students who acquire proficient application skills will also pursue job shadow opportunities at the end of the school year (effort is made to match student to career direction).

7522 - Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) & Robotics (Sem 2) 1 Credit/1 Semester
Students must have completed 1st year CAD class to enroll. Students may choose new and/or advanced specialized disciplines to apply. These include: Manufacturing/Industrial Design/Solids Modeling (Inventor, Solid Works, CamWorks, Floworks). Second year students will pursue advanced CAD and Solids Modeling skills in selected application software and apply it to approved projects, and are required to participate in job shadow/school-work at the end of year. This activity strives to match each student’s career intentions.
