8110 - ART 1 (9,10,11, 12) 1 Credit/1 Semester
A basic design and art history course for students interested in modern/contemporary art. The student is offered an art appreciation approach as well as an opportunity to experiment with the basic processes in art. Readings, lectures, films, and individual projects are all part of this course. No previous art required.

8115 - ART 2 (9,10,11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester
A course for students interested in further developing their basic skills and working more in depth in areas of special interest such as pen and ink, colored pencil techniques, basic understanding of three dimensional art forms, paper mache, sculpture and architecture as well as beginning design concepts. This class will challenge students to apply their basic skills from Art 1 in areas of more in depth study. Classes will include readings, films, gallery visits and individual project work.
Prerequisite: Art 1 or another approved art class.

8131 -  PAINTING 1 (9,10,11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester
This painting class includes the exploration, discovery of painting media, and techniques.

8132 - PAINTING 2 (10,11,12) 1Credit/1 Semester
Students will build upon their knowledge from Beginning Painting and focus on composition and using color to enhance mood. Areas of painting covered in class are: watercolor, mixed-media painting, acrylic painting, oil painting, free choice media and subjects. Recommend A or B in Beg. Painting or Instructor’s Approval.

8133 - PAINTING 3 (10,11,12) 1Credit/1 Semester
Students will build upon their knowledge from Beginning Painting and Painting 2. Students will increase their painting skill in their chosen medium and prepare work for display. Students will study various art history movements and develop original ideas for painting. Recommend A or B in Painting 2 or Instructor’s Approval.

8165 - POTTERY/SCULPTURE (10,11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester
A class dealing with all phases of basic hand-building techniques with clay. Techniques include: pinch, slump, slab, coil, extruded, and sculpture. Optional use of the pottery wheel is offered due to time limit and limited equipment. Added techniques are: spraying, gold, decal, pearlizer firing, as well as stamp making. Greenware ceramics are offered for sale as another option in the class. Tests, quizzes, and notebook are part of final for class.
Prerequisite: Previous art class or Art 1

8145 - PRINTMAKING & MULTI-IMAGING (9, 10, 11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester
Printmaking and Multi-imaging is an advanced course that builds on basic concepts from Beginning Painting, Beginning Drawing and Art in Society. Students will explore traditional and new ways to create multiple images, with an emphasis on pattern, color, and design in general.
Prerequisite: Previous art class or Art 1

8150 - COMMERCIAL ART (9,10,11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester
Innovative activities emphasize both technique and creativity involving product design layout, commercial and fine art, photography, and photo lab technical skills.
Prerequisite:
Drawing & Graphics, Art 1, or Beg. Painting.

8152 – A.P. ART HISTORY (11,12) 2 Credits /2 Semesters
This course is designed to be the equivalent of an introductory college course in art history. It will provide an understanding and knowledge of architecture, sculpture, painting, and other art forms within diverse historical and cultural contexts. Students will examine major forms of artistic expression from the past and the present from a variety of cultures. They will learn to look at works of art critically, with intelligence and sensitivity, and to analyze what they see.
NOTE: Board Policy 684 requires all students enrolled in an A.P. course to take the A.P. exam.

8158 – A.P. ART STUDIO (11,12) 2 Credits /2 Semesters
This course is based on a portfolio program that is designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art. The course is not based on a written AP examination; instead, students submit portfolios for evaluation. The course has four instructional goals: 1.) to encourage creative as well as systematic investigation of formal and conceptual issues; 2.) to emphasize making art as an ongoing process that involves the student in informed and critical decision-making; 3.) to develop technical skills and familiarize students with the functions of the visual elements; 4.) to encourage students to become independent thinkers who will contribute inventively and critically to their culture through the making of art.
NOTE: Board Policy 684 requires all students enrolled in an A.P. course to take the A.P. exam. Prerequisite: Beg. Painting, Commercial Art, or Adv. Drawing or Painting, or Instructor’s Approval. Admission to the Fine Arts Academy recommended.

8160 - DESIGN STUDIO AND PHOTOGRAPHY (9,10,11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester
Explore elements of commercial design through Design Studio. Students will be working on sketches in ink, markers, and colored pencils producing commercial posters. Explore black and white photography in-depth as you work with basic camera functions, film, the darkroom lab, printmaking, and developing your own photographic vision. You will design and construct your own pin-hole camera. Your work will be used for the school newspaper, yearbook, school posters, and personal portfolio. A fee may be charged for film, paper, etc. and students should have a 35mm camera.
Prerequisite: Communications Systems, Art 1, or Drawing & Graphics.

8170 - COMMUNITY DESIGN (recommend 10,11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester
A study of how art influences our local community. This class will participate in poster contests, logo competitions for local businesses and organizations, design and paint mural projects in the school or city.
Prerequisite: Beginning Painting, Drawing & Graphics, or Art 1.

8166– MULTICULTURAL CRAFTS (9,10,11,12) 1 Credit/1 Semester
This course will be offered fall 2007 pending approval by the school board. The student will explore and develop specific skills in various craft methods and be introduced to a variety of cultures through crafts. The history of individual crafts and their folk art ties will be the basis of each of the following sections: Paper cuts, Basketry, Leather, African/American Quilts, Mosaics, Stained Glass, Beading and Leather.
Prerequisites: Art 1, or another art class. Course Fee $25.00.
