Letter from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to Lakes. I hope you had a great summer and maybe a little time
to enjoy all the wonderful outdoor activities Coeur d’Alene has to offer. If
this is your first time at Lakes, I would like to welcome you to our great
school. I am looking forward to this year.
Most of you know Steve Caires retired last year and joining Lakes this year
as Assistant Principal is Lana Hamilton from Fernan Elementary. We are all
thrilled to have her on board. Also joining us this year to teach our new
LYNC Program is Kathy McGrath and Derek Mouw. Kathy iscoming to us from
Canfield Middle School and Derek is joining us from Haley, ID. Marianne
Buley from Fernan Elementary will also be helping with our new LYNC Program.
Our new health teacher all the way from Coeur d’Alene High School is Corey
Comstock. He is also taking the position of head coach for our 8th grade
boys basketball team Roy Carlson resigned to have some time to be a dad and
watch his own children play. Have fun Mr. Carlson, you deserve it.
Lakes did not make AYP (Annual Year Progress) this year compared to the
state average on the ISAT tests. I commend the staff, students, and parents
for all their hard work, but we fell short of our goal. The ISAT’s are now a
driving force in the education of all the children in Idaho. They are useful
and do have an important place in determining academic growth and help in
creating a consistent educational environment. What they don’t measure
though is a child’s creativity, love of learning, work ethic, learning
style, musical gift, artistic flair, and the fact that there are good days
and bad days in everyone’s life. We will continue to make progress on the
ISAT’s with all of our students, but… we will never lose sight of the fact
that we need to work with and inspire the whole child. I truly feel like all
the students at Lakes are my kids and I will continue to work on making this
the best school in Idaho. We have the staff and parents to make it happen. I
look forward to meeting all of you at Open House, September 10th, and just
want to remind you to please stay involved in your child’s education. My
door is always open… if you have any questions or concerns… don’t hesitate…
please call.
Sincerely,
Chris Hammons
