MAP
Measures of Academic Progress
Most parents are familiar with the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills, an assessment that compares our students with others in the state and nation.
MAP tests are not comparative, but rather give us exact information about what your child knows in language, reading, math and science. This year our school was chosen as a pilot school and will only be testing our 6th graders in language, reading, and math. Next fall, all three grades will be taking the complete test in September.
Each student takes the test on a computer and answers questions that are immediately processed. When a student answers correctly, the computer adjusts the test to make it harder. When a wrong answer is given, the computer adjusts the test to be easier. The result is an individualized test that determines exactly where a student is academically. Teachers can then plot a course of student achievement. By giving the test again in the spring, we can determine how far the student has progressed.
Students, teachers, and parents will gain helpful information from this new computerized achievement test.
