Week

October 22-26, 2007

IDFY is off to a great start this year! Hopefully members enjoyed going to The Amazing Corn Maze in October. If students could not attend, don’t worry. We are hoping to plan another trip for IDFY members in the near future. Our chapter is still growing and students are welcome to join at any time. Just see an IDFY member, Gwynn Crabtree or Mrs. Doerr.

New IDFY’ers will be receiving membership cards. Several local merchants offer discounts when the card is presented.
Upcoming Meetings will be held every other Thursday during their connections period in Ms. Crabtree’s office (Room 10). We had our first meeting on October 11th.

Parent participation is encouraged and welcomed. If you would like to volunteer or help with monthly activities please contact Gwynn Crabtree or Stacey Doerr at Lakes Middle School.

What is I.D.F.Y?
Idaho Drug Free Youth, Inc. is a state-wide program developed to help middle & high school students resist tobacco, drug and alcohol use. Joining students sign a pledge to be drug free and submit to random drug testing. The program is a cooperative effort within the community involving students, school staff, and adult volunteers, and members of the business community.

What does I.D.F.Y have to offer?
1. Discounts and privileges from participating area merchants
2. Monthly club activities, at locations such as Triple Play, Go-Kart Family Fun, IMAX, where members can socialize with other drug free youth within the community.
3. Free flying opportunities (Local area pilots have donated their time to take I.D.F.Y. members flying each month who have achieved their 25 fly high points by participating in monthly club activities.)

What are the I.D.F.Y. goals?
1. To promote tobacco, drug and alcohol free youth in Idaho
2. To educate the community of the dangers of abuse and provide more positive advantages.
3. To enhance the leadership capabilities of young people.
4. To reduce the demand for drugs.
5. To improve communication between youth, parents, law enforcement, school staff, business people,      treatment providers, and our community.
