An Immunization Message

In 1995, 69.9% of all the children age 24 months to beginning school age, had been immunized in Idaho.

Recent statistical studies indicate that when children start their vaccines before three months of age, they are two times more likely to have completed their primary series of vaccines by 24 months of age.

In addition, children who receive their first vaccines after three months of age are at increased risk of not completing their vaccine series on time (by 24 months of age.)

This is important because infants and young children are more at risk for severe illness and complications, even death, caused by diseases that can be prevented by the use of vaccines. And yet, in North Idaho, only about 64% of our children are fully immunized by two years of age.

So the message is: Start immunizations on time and stay on schedule.
