Welcome!
My name is Christine Owens.  I teach art at Fernan Elementary School in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.  My world is as big and wide as the ocean, so I'll keep this brief.

I'm a dreamer...that makes me perfect for this job!  When I was 30 years old I went back to college to study art and education.  After graduation in 1990, I taught fourth grade for a year and then landed my dream job as an art teacher (Thank you, Brigette).  My goal is to strengthen the joy of creating in the lives of children so that someday, as adults, they might say, "I loved art when I was little.  I need to get back to that and start drawing and painting again!"

My own world expanded with that decision.

And I am excited to say that in June of 1999, and again in April, 2002, after 30 years of dreaming about it, I finally went to FRANCE!  The second trip was a university class in Paris for a week learning about the history, arts and culture of Paris.  Again in June of 2005 I spent five weeks in France: two weeks painting with a French friend, two weeks with an American friend touring the southern Alps, Provence and as many art museums as possible on the Mediterranean coast (St. Tropez!), and then a week on my own in Paris, the "center" of the art world.  The last two days of my trip were in Amsterdam, where I was enthralled by a special exhibit of Vincent Van Gogh's drawings...and Amsterdam's abundance of creativity!

This summer my son, Blake, was  married so I spent many happy hours helping to create a beautiful and fun Hawaiian-style wedding right here in North Idaho.  I was also very busy with my artwork as I did my first arts and crafts fair...in Stanley, Idaho, among the gorgeous Sawtooth Mountains!  There was plenty of gardening time, too!  (I'm learning about growing roses among the pines!)

In the summer of 2001 my husband and I went to the Cook Islands in the South Pacific Ocean to learn about the arts and culture of the islands.  Click here To go to my Cook Islands Pagesto learn about our trip and the art!

Who knows what awaits us out there in our big world?  Open your eyes and your hearts to the unfamiliar....
You might find a new pathway to your heart's desire.

their faith, died in an enormous fire built at the foot of the castle."
