Welcome to Fifth Grade!

Fifth grade is a time of new explorations and connections. Long considered a transition year between elementary school and middle school, the fifth grade teachers are passionate about education and preparing for the future. Developing good study habits and independence is integral to success.

Students develop organizational skills, personal responsibility, a strong work ethic and respect for themselves and others. As the oldest students in the school, fifth graders are role models. Service projects planned throughout the year provide opportunities to “give back” to their class, school and community.

Homework Policy

Homework is listed in the planner. Homework always includes reading for a total of 2 ½ hours a week (1/2 hour for five days). It might also include work that needs to be completed from class and/or practice in a subject area. Please sign the planner every day to verify the reading. The planner needs to be signed every night. Children who read more are better able to learn.

Late Work

Work turned in late receives a lower score. Students will complete their late work at recess and at home. Late notices will be sent home at the end of the week, to be signed and returned the following Monday.
