pictures throughout the school year at Fernan Functions. Think Variety
- cross county, Halloween Parade, Fernando’s, field trips, sports,
Triple Play , skate night, Christmas and Valentine classroom parties,
Special Chorus, even birthday parties with Fernan kids. The best
pictures are printed in high quality (not from computer) have 4-8

the office. Questions should be directed to Marilee Finney 664-0917.
I am thrilled to be your third
grader’s music teacher this year. My name is Julie Powell and I’ve
taught general music, choir and marimbas in the Cd’A School District for
many years. I’ve been enjoying your children in music class and look
forward to meeting the Fernan families as the year goes on.
Our third graders will be featured
in the Veteran’s Day Assembly this year. Look for more information
about this exciting event from their classroom teachers.
Our third graders will lead the
service songs.
*Mr. Marks’ class wear red
*Ms. Critchfield’s class wear white
*Ms. Canale’s class wear blue
Please have your child dressed and
ready to perform that day. It’s a special privilege for them to lead
the singing honoring these important people.
How is the Primary
Years Programme different from other elementary school programs?
The Primary Years programme (PYP) provides an educational
framework for teaching the Cd’A School District Curriculum. It is based
upon what is currently known about how young children learn and draws
upon the best practices in elementary education.
The PYP requires all teachers in the school to plan units
of instruction and lessons collaboratively around six important themes.
The collaboration facilitates a carefully thought-out and sequential
development of skills, knowledge, and attitudes.
Students are taught to understand that learning is about
asking questions and looking for answers, which in turn generate new,
and perhaps more complex questions in need of answers. As teachers work
through this programme of guided inquiry, they also help students
understand what their relationship and responsibility is towards what
they are learning. In the PYP, character shares a prominent place
alongside learning.
The Blanket drive will
coincide with
“Homeless Awareness Week”
November 8-16, 2008
Blankets are needed to provide warmth through the winter
months.
Interesting Facts:
Kootenai county has an estimated 600 homeless people
In January of 2008, 360 homeless people were surveyed. Of
those 23% were unsheltered, 77% were sheltered in a vehicle, abandoned
building, stairwell or other.
Of those homeless in January, 2008 57% were males, 43%
were females
Approximately 1,300 volunteers assist in providing
services to the homeless
Please donate new or
gently used blankets.
The blankets will be distributed through local agencies
that provide services to homeless.
There will be a collection box in the foyer, November 8
- 16th.
