The Coeur d'Alene School District is proud to offer beginning strings to any interested 5th grade student in the district.  This program teaches beginning Strings Technique to students who want to learn how to play the violin, viola, cello or bass.

The strings class meets twice a week, once in the morning before school and once during the school day.  The students perform 2 concerts a year. Their first concert is held in December. At this performance you will see the musical growth that they have made in just 2 months. Their second concert is held in May.  At the conclusion of this performance awards are then handed out.

Learning to play an instrument and belonging to the school orchestra opens up a whole new world of friendship and fun!  Above all, it promotes an enjoyment and life long appreciation of music.    Your child will be able to take advantages of music performances with orchestras at the middle school and high school levels in the schools and in the communities Junior Youth and Youth Symphony's.  The opportunities for playing a string instrument after high school are abundant, with many colleges and universities offering scholarships for orchestra participation.  Orchestra provides a great foundation for your child in all aspects of life.  In addition to music, students learn self-discipline, group cooperation, problem-solving, goal-setting, self expression, memory skills, concentration, poise, enhanced physical coordination, high self-esteem, and the importance of teamwork-skills in great demand in almost every aspect of life.  Like all the arts, music has a profound effect on the academic success of the student as well.
