stanine are required to take a Note: The 2.00 (C Average) requirement is still in effect. |
"C" Core
Students need to maintain a "C" average in the "core" curriculum.
This core consists of English (8 credits), Math (4 credits), Speech (1 credit),
and reading (1 credit) for a total of 14 credits. Students who do not maintain
this average may consider the following option:
Retake the course during the regular school year to raise the grade. (This is only allowed if the student received a "D" or "F" in the course.)
Retake the course in summer school.
Raise their grade point average in the remaining core classes so that the average within the core remains a "C," e.g., if the student has a "D" in math and a "B" in English the average could still be a "C." However, a student must have a passing grade in each core class.
Score at an acceptable level on the TAP test and Writing Assessment tests taken in the junior year. Must at least pass core subjects.
Speech Arts
Debate or Speech-Communications may be substituted for the Speech requirement.
Debate must be taken for the full year.
Humanities
This requirement may be satisfied by academic courses which emphasize history,
theory, analysis, and criticism in any of the following areas: a. Literature,
history, philosophy, architecture, and the fine arts, e.g., music, art, drama,
and dance. b. Interdisciplinary humanities, e.g., the related study of two or
more of the disciplines listed in a. above. c. Foreign languages, d. Comparative
world religions.
Not more than two semester credits of this requirement may be met by
studio/performance courses or practical arts courses. (NOTE: Idaho colleges do
not accept practical arts in lieu of their humanities admission requirement.)
