- Students enrolled in PE should have a set of PE clothes
that they use only for PE class. The clothes should consist of a
loose-fitting t-shirt, shorts and/or sweatpants, white socks, and gym
shoes. Also, students will be expected to participate outdoors on cool
days, so sweatpants and sweatshirts are advised.
- Students need to bring from home a lock for their PE
locker. We recommend combination locks. Students are not
allowed to share lockers with other students. Students will be issued
a locker when they bring a lock from home. Students can also borrow locks
from the school for the semester.
- Students are expected to participate in all
activities. If proper clothing is not available, the student will still
participate, and their daily grade will be lowered.
- Students will be excused from participation for
a maximum of two days with a parent note. A doctor's note will be required
for exclusion from activities for more than two days.
- The beginning half of each class will be devoted to
one of the five elements of fitness: agility, strength, speed,
flexibility or endurance.
- The last half of each class will be spent practicing
or playing a particular sport unit.
- Grading will be based 50% on participation (proper
clothing, behavior, effort, attitude, sportsmanship, and safety), 25% on
written tests, and 25% on fitness runs.
- Each day in PE is worth 10 daily participation
points. Therefore, if a student misses a day due to an excused absence or
school activity, they will need to make up those points lost by writing a
one-page topic report. A topic report can be about anything related to
health or fitness. Some examples include: smoking, skin cancer, diet foods,
how/where a particular sport was created or played, a new medicine,
dangerous drugs, running techniques, and many more.
