Background Information
Over the course of the next several weeks, you will be doing research on heroes—both real and imagined—and comparing the qualities each possess. At the conclusion of your research, you will be writing a formal essay that responds to one of the following prompts:

(1)  Write an essay for your English teacher describing your superpower persona, your superpower, and explaining how you would use your superpower to help humanity.

(2)   Write an essay for your English teacher describing a real-life hero and the qualities they possess that help humanity.

Assignments

Activity One
Click on the "Who Are Your Heroes?" link and complete the survey. (5 pts) All surveys must be submitted
during class on Monday, November 3rd.

Activity Two
Select a recorder for your group, grab a computer, open the "Heroes—Brainstorming" form, and follow the directions. Save your work in the recorder's Gaggle locker. Be prepared to share your work.

Activity Three

Go to the Edublog site and respond to the blog question. Be sure you use your first name ONLY, #, and period as your identification.

Activity Four

Read the poem "Heroism in Action Welcomes You" and explain its meaning. (5 pts—entry task)

Open the "Heroism in Action" website. Click on the "Heroism" link on the left-side of the site and then click "How to Select a Hero". Read this section and then "Peter Garnett Talks About Heroes". Complete the note-section on the "Super Hero Checklist".

Activity Five

Return to the "Heroism in Action" website. Click on the "Heroism" link on the left-side of the site and then select "Heroes of the 20th Century". Explore this list with your partner and then select three individuals that you would both like to investigate. Complete the note-section on the "Super Hero Checklist".

Activity Six

Using the Super Heroes links at the top of this page, investigate fictional "super heroes". Formulate a definition of a super hero and post it on the class blog.
