It is that time of
the year when the students at Canfield Middle School are completing the
ISAT (Idaho Standards Achievement Test). With the data from these tests
as well as teacher, student, and parent input, we will make
recommendations for classes for the 2008-2009 school year. At Canfield
Middle School we will be offering enrichment classes for those students
who need the extra help, and we will be adding more advanced classes for
those students who are seeking a more challenging curriculum. As is
stated in the Coeur d’Alene School District Mission Statement, it is our
goal to “provide every student with an academically excellent
education.” The data from these tests is also used to see if Canfield
Middle School is meeting AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) as required by
federal and state legislation. Many of our students have made
significant growth over the course of the year, and we are excited about
the years ahead. Our block schedule during ISAT testing went very well,
and we will be analyzing our data to see how we can continue to improve
the testing process for all of our students.
I want to offer my
congratulations to Jim Gray, our current assistant principal, on being
named the new principal at Sorensen Magnet School of the Arts and
Humanities beginning next school year. Jim has been a tremendous asset
to Canfield and the Coeur d’Alene School District and he will definitely
be missed. We will begin the process of replacing Mr. Gray in the next
few weeks.
It has been an
exciting year at Canfield, and I am looking forward to the years ahead.
We have accomplished much, and our students have made excellent progress
to prepare for their futures. As a staff, we are constantly looking at
ways to improve so that every student at Canfield gets a quality
education.
In closing, I want
to thank each and every one of you who took the time out of your busy
schedules to spend time with your son or daughter at Canfield throughout
the year. Whether attending student-led conferences, volunteering in
classrooms or watching an extra-curricular activity, your participation
is appreciated and most certainly encouraged. With your help and
support, I truly believe all of us working together are making a
difference in the lives of our youth.
