2007 RAPSA Award Winners Announced! The Bridge Academy Earns Best Practices Award for Educational Organizations The Bridge Academy Alternative School, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, fills a vital need for those students for whom traditional educational methods have failed. Established four years ago as an alternative for high school learning, The Bridge Academy has helped hundreds of students improve their self-esteem and reach their goal of graduation. Part of their success is due to the fact that students are required to obtain employment and complete community service. This sense of responsibility prepares them for the general work force and instills confidence. Recently, the teachers and staff at this school were honored with the Idaho Brightest Star award, presented by Governor James Risch, for their tireless work to help the children of their community. Excel GrantsCapturing Communications and Confidence on CameraDuring the 2006-07 school year, the Excel Foundation funded a grant proposal for a digital camera, video camera, and software. These were primarily used for our speech classes. Students were taped presenting their five required speeches. They were required to review and evaluate their performances. The cameras were also used to document the many community activities we are involved in every year, as well as the field trips we took as a reward for student achievement. The cameras and software were helpful in organizing and presenting our graduation slide show, which encompasses pictures of all our graduates, as well as special events throughout the year. Inland Empire DiscoveryDuring the 2005-06 school year, the Excel Foundation funded a grant proposal for the Bridge Academy's "Inland Empire Discovery." The grant allowed students to participate in four different field trips to increase their appreciation of the history and culture of the Inland Northwest. Many of our students are transplants from other states, so it provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to get to know the heritage of this beautiful place we call home. Thank You Excel! |
