Welcome to Second Grade.
The second grade team works together to assure that each child
has the best possible opportunity to grow and learn. Our goal is that all of our
students will be challenged to reach their full potential, experience success
and discover the joy of life-long learning.
Reading
skills and strategies are taught with the goal to improve
comprehension. Time for independent silent reading and for oral
reading is provided to improve fluency. The Book-It program requires
15 minutes of daily reading at home. The rewards are fun for the
children and they gain in vocabulary, comprehension and their rate of
fluency.
Math
goals include knowing the addition and subtraction facts by
memory to 18, place value to hundreds, patterns, problem-solving and
critical thinking.
Social
Studies includes learning about groups, neighbors, communities
and government.
Science
units are Human Body, Solar System and Animals.
